Jessica Arellano, better known as Jessy J is a popular American saxophonist. Driven by a fresh spark of creativity, Jessy J is known for her sensational blend of R&B and Latin-tinged jazz. Her music and talent have garnered her twelve top singles and six chart-topping albums over the course of her career.
Jessy J was born in Portland Oregon on December 20, 1982. However, she was raised in Helmet, California. Jessy’s mother is a native Texan while her father is of Mexican-American descent. Jessy J began playing the piano at the tender age of four. When she was fifteen, Jessy won the Piano State Championship at the Béla Bartók Festival. Eventually, she shifted instruments and started playing the saxophone. Jessy J also played in honored bands such as Grammy Band. She also played in international festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival held in Switzerland.
During her time at USC, Jessy was also selected to play as a member of the All-American College Band for Disney. After graduating, Jessy worked and toured with several artists and groups. This includes The Temptations, Michael Bolton, Jessica Simpson, and many more. Throughout her career, Jessy has also performed with artists like Taylor Swift, Maxwell, and Chance the Rapper, amongst others. She also performed on the album “Elevation” which was nominated for the Grammy Awards twice.
Jessy J began her professional music career after Paul Brown gave her a spot on his tour. This also gave her the opportunity to perform solo. Jessy eventually recorded her first album “Tequila Moon” along with Paul Brown. The album was a huge success. It also topped the Billboard Smooth Jazz song chart. The talented saxophonist has received numerous awards and nominations throughout her career. Jessy J has been named “Debut Artist of the Year” by Radio & Records in 2008. She has also received the “Contemporary Jazz Song of the Year” award from R&R.
