David Stephen Koz or better known as Dave Koz is a popular smooth jazz saxophonist. The American musician, composer, record producer, keyboardist, saxophonist, and radio personality is an extremely talented artist. According to the iconic smooth jazz saxophonist “Music has been such a blessing to me, and we need it more than ever today”. 

Early Life

Dave Koz was born in a Jewish family in Encino, California. His mother, Audrey was a pharmacist and his father, Norman, was a dermatologist. Dave has two siblings, and his brother is also a musician. Music played an important role in his life. While attending William Howard Taft High School, Dave used to perform on saxophone and was a member of the school jazz band. While Dave graduated from UCLA with a degree in mass communications, he eventually decided to become a professional musician. 

Music Career

During the initial years of his music career, Dave was a member of Bobby Caldwell’s tour. While Dave is known for his incredible work in the jazz music scene, he originally was a rock saxophonist. During the 1980s, Dave worked with several musicians and rock bands. Eventually, the smooth jazz saxophonists decided to pursue a solo career. “Dave Koz” was his debut album when he started recording for Capitol Records. Some of his other popular albums include “Lucky Man”, “Saxophonic” and “The Dance”. During the pandemic, Dave recorded two stellar albums, which include “A New Day”. 

Later on in his career, Dave Koz also began hosting “The Dave Koz Radio Show”. This was a syndicated radio program. Apart from his incredible music career, Dave has also served as the global ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation for over twenty-five years. The iconic jazz saxophonist has racked up an impressive array of achievements and honors. This also includes nine Grammy Award Nominations.
